The Varsity Baseball Club won an exciting 10 inning game vs. the Big Red of Glen Cove by a score of 6-5. In the bottom of the 10th, with the Bulldogs trailing 5-4, Justin Muscarella reached base on a hit by pitch. Rob Lovaglio followed with a walk to set up the dramatic finish. Bryan Marksteiner's RBI hit drove in Muscarella to tie the game. That brought Ilker Ucaner to the plate with the infield in. Ucaner's grounder to 2nd base scored Lovaglio for the winning run and a 6-5 victory in an important league crossover game. The Bulldogs showed much character by defeating Glen Cove who came into the game ranked 4th in Newsday's power ratings. Starting pitcher Fred Koromi gave a heroic performance, going 9 innings, scattering 9 hits and keeping Island Trees in the game. Scott Sadowski picked up the win in relief with a scoreless top of the 10th inning. Ilker Ucaner went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI's for the Bulldogs. This game was won by the Bulldog defense. Muscarella played an outstanding game at short, while Lovaglio made a great diving play in right center to save the Bulldogs bacon. Freshman catcher Paul DelGiacco continues to play outstanding defense, throwing out another runner in this game.

The Island Trees Girls Varsity Softball team split with Lynbrook on April 13. The girls had to continue a game that got called on account of darkness in the beginning of the season. The game started in the 9th inning with the score tied at 1. Megan Carlson and Beth Hughes had the game winning hits which gave I.T. a 2-1 lead. The game ended with Colleen Cunningham and Megan Carlson turning a double play. Lauren Poplawski pitched two great games, but unfortunately, I.T. lost the second game 3-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning.

The Girls JV Softball team had an amazing win over Jericho. Sam Dugal had a homerun, bringing in 2 runs. Sam Rooks came in as a relief pitcher and turned the game around.

The JV Softball team had another great win against Lynbrook with a score of 15-3. On the mound, Samantha Rooks with great pitching. Amazing fielding by Jen Abramowski, Nicole Doller and Angela Panebianco. Good hitting by Kristin Vesely with a triple, Ashley Alesi with a double and Christine Verbitsky with a hard drive to center field. Samantha Dugal ending the game with an out at home. Great job girls.

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won an extremely exciting game against West Hempstead on April 12. The girls came back strong in the second half after a 3 goal deficit at halftime. With 5 minutes left in the game, Meghan Sguigna scored off an assist by Kate Beale, tying the game 11-11. Sguigna scored again off a great feed from Sarah Burleson, giving the Lady Dogs a lead by 1. Beale scored the final goal of the game which brought the girls to win the game by 2. Sam Modik, Kate Beale and Meghan Sguigna each had 3 goals. Val Ahrens and Angelika Paskins each had 2 goals. Sarah Burleson, the athlete of the week, contributed with 3 assists and Dom Witteck with 1 assist. Maggie Pepitone protected the cage with 7 saves as Gina Ciaravino, Heather Mitchell and Jen Reno controlled the defense, creating several turnovers. Congratulations on a great win girls! Thanks to all who came out to support the team. The team is currently 2-2-1.

The JV Girls Lacrosse team had a big victory over Elmont. Shannon Buckley dominated the field with 4 goals. Kristen Weinman scored a clutch game winning goal with one and a half minutes left. Sarah Haughney showed dedication and patience on defense by remaining focused after being fouled multiple times.

The JV Girls Lacrosse team continues to work hard to improve their skills as well as their overall record. In their second year of existence, the Lady Bulldogs are currently 3-2 for the season. Marissa Sciacca, a newcomer to the sport of Lacrosse, has proven her ability to perform with a total of 3 goals so far. Kristen Weinman and Lauren Mahlstadt have played hard in the midfield, showing that they have the endurance and finesse to play such a demanding position. Courtney Lupo's aggressive style on defense has frustrated opponents and caused several turnovers. The girls continue their season with the momentum of a winning record.

The Varsity Badminton team put another check in the win column with a strong 5-2 win against the Wantagh Warriors at Wantagh. Joanna Shek, Sue Yao, Heather Rienti, Michelle Gruber, Amy Strickland, Emily Koutsoftas, Lauren Wielgus and Jessica Panewicz are on their way to All Conference status with this important win.

It was a barnburner, but the Varsity Badminton team defeated the #1 team in Conference IV, Bellmore Kennedy. It came down to our 4th doubles and Lauren Wielgus and Jessica Panewicz pulled through with a tremendous 2 game win.

The Boys' Track and Field team defeated New Hyde Park at their quad meet, scoring over 60 points, their highest total of the season. Christian Blauvelt once again led the team by winning all 3 of his events, the high jump, the triple jump and the long jump. Christian remains unbeaten in the triple jump and high jump this season. Steve Battafarano also had one of his best meets of the season, scoring 2nd in the 1600 m. and 3200 m. and anchoring the winning 4 x 800 meter relay team. Alex Romero was solid in the hurdles with a 2nd place finish in the 110 m. high hurdles and a 3rd place finish in the 400 intermediate hurdles. Tom Waldron continues to come on strong in the shot put and discus, finishing 1st in the discus and 2nd in the shop put. Chris LoFaso also scored in 2 events, the 100 m. and the long jump. Justin Heisig was a scorer in the triple jump and the high jump. Other scorers in the shot put included Bobby Martinez and Rob Howells. The other members of the winning 4 x 800 m. relay team were Dan Weinman, Justin Heisig and Alex Romero. Congratulations to the boys on their best effort of the season.
