The Varsity Baseball team got its first win of the year by defeating New Hyde Park by the score of 10-0. The Bulldogs were led by sophomore pitcher Matt Gelormino. Gelormino pitched a complex game, 2-hitter while striking out 11 batters. Senior Bryan Marksteiner went 2 for 4, including a double and triple and 2 RBI's. Bryan also turned in the Web Gem play of the day with a diving grab in the 2nd inning. Junior Matt Acton had a huge day going 3 for 3 including 2 triples and 2 RBI's. Freshmen players David Darcy and Shaun Rutherford both added 2 hits apiece in the Bulldog victory. The team showed excellent "bounce backability" and character after losing to Plainedge previously.

The J.V. Baseball team had an exciting 10-7 come from behind win against New Hyde Park. Nick Marchelos pitched 2 clutch innings and Ever Reyes closed the game in the dark. Great job by the entire team.

The Varsity Softball team played a tough game against Clarke. After being down 3-0 in the 7th inning, Gina Brewer and Megan Carlson singled in the game tying RBIs. The game ended in a tie after 9 innings and will be continued at a later date. Lauren Poplawski pitched an outstanding game and every girl gave it their all.

The Varsity Badminton team opened its season with a solid 6-1 win over Valley Stream North on their home courts. Congratulations to 1st Singles Joanna Shek; 2nd Singles Sue Yao; 1st Doubles Katie Blauvelt and Brittany Guerrini; 2nd Doubles Heather Rienti and Michelle Gruber; 3rd Doubles Amy Strickland and Emily Koutsoftas and 4th Doubles Jessica Panewicz and Lauren Wielgus.

The Boys Track and Field team had their best meet of the season in a quad meet with Wantagh, Clarke and Jericho. The team was led once again by a dominant performance by Christian Blauvelt. Christian won every event he competed in and remains undefeated for the season. Christian won the 100 meters, the high jump and the triple jump as he overpowered the competition. Alex Romero also had a great meet as he finished 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles, 4th in the 400 meter hurdles and 5th in the long jump. Also scoring for the team was Steve Battafarano with a 2nd place in the 3200 meters, Thomas Waldron with a 3rd place in the shot put and Justin Heisig with a 5th place in the high jump. Dan Weinman, Chris LoFaso and Byron Foong all had 6th place finishes in their events. Congratulations to all the boys on a solid effort.

The Island Trees J.V. Girls Lacrosse team has begun their 2005 season with great success. The J.V. team is continuing to pave the way for a new tradition at Island Trees. A strong passion for the sport and a desire to be recognized has put the girls on a path to not only a successful season, but a solid future for Girls Lacrosse in the district as well. The Lady Bulldogs won their first game against Valley Stream Central with a final score of 14-3. The girls faced Jericho during their second contest and were victorious again with a final score of 8-2. Sisters Jackie and Shannon Buckley have proven to be key ingredients to an unstoppable offense. Sherihann Juaidi, a brave volunteer for the position of goalkeeper, has been superb to say the least. Come out and support a very exciting and enthusiastic J.V. Girls Lacrosse team.
