The Boys Track and Field team opened their season with some strong performances against Glen Cove and Lynbrook. The team was led by senior Christina Blauvelt, who was victorious in all three events he competed in. Christian took first in the 200 m. dash, the high jump and the long jump and was the most dominant competitor at the meet. Also scoring for the team was Steve Bartafarano, who took 4th in the 3200 m. against a very competitive Lynbrook distance team. In the shot put, first time thrower Tom Waldron threw 35'5" and placed 4th over all. Mike Palumbo also had a strong meet in the 110 m. high hurdles placing 4th. The 4 x 800 m. relay finished 2nd and was led in a strong finish by Steve Battafarano, a great second leg by Dan Weinman and solid first and third legs by Byron Foong and Justin Heisig.
Girls Varsity Lacrosse won their first league game against Valley Stream Central. Meaghan Davis scored the first goal in the first 9 seconds. Meghan Sguigna added 3 goals. Kate Beale and Shannon Lehosky both scored 2 goals. Valerie Ahrens and Sam Modik also contributed 1 goal each. Maggie Pepitone had 6 saves, allowing the girls to hold their lead. The defense was led by Gina Ciaravino, Heather Mitchell, Angelika Paskins and Kiersten Bortell. The final score was 10-8.
Congratulations to the Girls JV Lacrosse team for a stunning 14-3 victory over Valley Stream Central. Jackie Buckley led the offensive charge with 5 goals and 1 assist. Sheri Juaidi had 10 saves in goal to keep Valley Stream out of the game.
