Let the Games Begin
Chairman of the Nassau County Board of Assessors Harvey Levinson is rumored to be the Democratic candidate for supervisor of the Town of Hempstead against incumbent Republican Kate Murray. Posturing for the position may have already begun as Levinson proposed changes to the Nassau property tax system that are being criticized by Murray.

Island Trees Athletics
The Boys Track and Field team opened their season with some strong performances against Glen Cove and Lynbrook. The team was led by senior Christina Blauvelt, who was victorious in all three events he competed in. Christian took first in the 200 m. dash, the high jump and the long jump and was the most dominant competitor at the meet. Also scoring for the team was Steve Bartafarano, who took 4th in the 3200 m. against a very competitive Lynbrook distance team. In the shot put, first time thrower Tom Waldron threw 35'5" and placed 4th over all. Mike Palumbo also had a strong meet in the 110 m. high hurdles placing 4th. The 4 x 800 m. relay finished 2nd and was led in a strong finish by Steve Battafarano, a great second leg by Dan Weinman and solid first and third legs by Byron Foong and Justin Heisig.
