The Levittown Public Library budget vote and the election of a library trustee will be held Tuesday, April 5 from noon to 9 p.m. in the library's community room.
Those who are registered to vote on Levittown School District matters and those who are residents of the Levittown School District and have voted in the general election within the last four years are eligible to vote on April 5.
The Board of Library Trustees is committed to continuation of hours and all current services at a minimum increase in cost. The board has developed a proposed budget for 2005/2006 that realistically reflects the cost of operating the library. The proposed budget calls for an increase of $206,596 or 4.1 percent. The increase in the amount to be raised by taxes is $381,596.
One library trustee will be elected for a five-year term, ending June 30, 2010. Susan Maher is running unopposed for the position currently held by Dr. Vladimir Rus. Ms. Maher, a Levittown resident for 13 years, lives on Tarry Lane with her husband and two children. Her sons, age 7 and 9, attend Abbey Lane School. A graduate of St. John's University, she works full-time in Manhattan as an assistant vice president for Rabobank International. An avid reader, she describes herself and her family as great users of the Levittown Library.
The personnel codes provide funds to meet the projected cost of the second year of a three-year contract with CSEA, the collective bargaining agent for the library employees.
Funds are provided for ongoing updating of the library building. Plans for the coming year include refurbishment of the adult, young adult and reference areas on the main floor. Plans for the meeting room include more comfortable seating.
The budget is mailed to every household in the Levittown Union Free School District. Copies are also available in the library and in the LUFSD schools.
