MacArthur High School held its Wrestling Alumni event on Saturday, Jan. 29. The festivities began with the introduction of the parents of the seven seniors graduating and leaving the program this year.
At 2 p.m., the Generals wrestled Longwood, a Suffolk team powerhouse while the Massapequa Chiefs wrestled Brentwood, another Suffolk team powerhouse. Coach Howie Greenblatt introduced and invited all former wrestling alumni onto the center of the mat for recognition.
After the introduction of the alumni, Coach Greenblatt announced that this was the inaugural year for induction of candidates into the MacArthur Generals Wrestling Hall of Fame of Achievements. Shawn Kegel, a 1996 graduate and three-time Nassau County Champion, was inducted into the Hall of Fame based on his superior high school and college wrestling accomplishments. Bob Goldberg, former wrestling coach during the 1970s and 1980s, was also inducted into the Hall of Achievements for his vast accomplishments for the district, Section 8 and athletics in general.
