(Editor's Note: The letter was written in response to an article published in the Feb. 18 edition of the Levittown Tribune. The title of the article was Parents Address BOE With Holiday Crafts, Social Worker Concerns.)
I just wanted to clarify some of what was written in the first paragraph under the Public Be Heard section of the article. The article states that 'some residents' were 'upset' that their children were preparing crafts with the 'Star of David' or the 'menorah.' The way this was written could be misconstrued and leave some people to believe that those of us who have voiced our concerns about the unfair representation in the recognition of the holidays were, in some way, opposed to our children preparing crafts representing Jewish or other religious holidays. This could not be further from the truth. We welcome the fact that our children are getting the opportunity to learn about other cultures and religions within the context of the holiday seasons. Of the many other people that we know who have expressed the same concern, either publicly or privately, all share this sentiment. We just feel that our school should welcome crafts, decorations and music that reflect the true meaning of Christmas as well.
