Do you know a veteran who has volunteered his or her time for the betterment of their brethren? If so, Hempstead Town is now accepting nominations for the 2005 Veterans Medal. The medal is awarded annually to veterans who continued their commitment to the betterment of our country by volunteering their time to help other veterans.

Applicants must be nominated by their veteran's organization in order to be considered for this special honor. Only Town of Hempstead residents are eligible for the town's veteran's medal. The Town of Hempstead Veterans Medal Committee will select the winners.

All entries must include supporting documentation of the nominees' volunteer activities and the name and address of both the nominee and the nominator. No more than one nomination from the same post will be accepted. Each entry must include a copy of the nominee's DD214 or discharge.

All entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 29. Please send your nomination to Town of Hempstead Veterans Committee, Attn: Victor Sparaccio, Hempstead Town Hall, One Washington Street, Hempstead, NY 11550.

Winners will be notified by mail and presented with their medals at the annual Town of Hempstead Salute to Veterans ceremony, to be held at Town Park Point Lookout Saturday, July 2, 2005.
