Congratulations to Christian Blauvelt who runs winter track for Island Trees. Christian won the County Championship in the long jump and came in second in the high jump. Christian will now compete in the State Tournament.
The Island Trees Varsity Wrestling team finished second in the Nassau County Dual Meet Tournament at Clarke High School. The Bulldogs lost a close 24-23 decision to Wantagh in the finals. The team finished the season as League Champions and County Finalists. The team now turns its goals to the Qualifying Tournament at Syosset High School.
Congratulations to the Girls' Bowling team on its second-place finish at the County Tournament. Excellent job by Jenny Sierra, Jen Lovaglio, Ingrid Gomez, Geri Silverio, Heather Mitchell, Amy Strickland and Samantha Rooks. Coach Keyser would like to thank the entire team for a great season.
The Boys' Bowling team had a great finish to a great year. At the County Tournament, the boys ranked third out of 16. Highlights of the day were Ed Noblesala with a 235, Pete Marchelos with a 246 and Adam Chase with a 247. Adam bowled three strikes in the 10th frame of the sixth game to clinch third place for Island Trees. Congratulations to seniors Dan Apgar, Adam Chase and Jay Giannas on a great year.
Island Trees eighth-grader, Michelle Duffy, competed in the Colgate Women's Games at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Feb. 5. Michelle finished second in the high jump and won a trophy and a $500 scholarship.
The eighth-grade girls basketball team remained undefeated by defeating Bethpage 43-17. Captains Ashley Moore and Christina Merrill showed poise and leadership while leading their team to victory. Top scorers for the Lady Dawgs were Danielle Hastings and Michelle Duffy. Lisa Barenzano, Rebecca Burleson, Ashley Moore, Danielle Doller, Tara Ludewig, Deanna Brown, Stephanie Rogers, Jackie Michelsen, Jillian Foster, Christina Merrill and Renee Balvin also scored in the game.
The seventh-grade girls basketball team played a hard-fought game against Salk. The whole team played well. Some standouts in the game were Jessica Beissel, Sam Wierzbicki, Anne Badolato and Michelle Giordano.
