Senior Guard Joe Cammarata scored a career high 30 points in a win over Lawrence 67-65. Joe who shot 10 for 13 from the foul line, made two big free throws with 5 seconds left to extend MacArthur's lead to 67-62. Senior Mike Gerdes led the generals with 10 assists. Senior guards Andrew Kost (12) and Steve Belmonte (11) combined for 23 points. Center Scott Rodgers played outstanding defense, collecting 11 rebounds. With the win MacArthur clinched a playoff spot. This will be the sixth straight year MacArthur will compete in the County playoffs. The Generals are still tied for first place in League AA-II with a record of 7-2 (12-3 overall). With three games remaining MacArthur will look to win their first conference title in over 16 years.
The conference title could come down to the last game of the season against Valley Stream Central at MacArthur on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7:15, which also happens to be Senior Night. The MacArthur Boys Basketball team will be celebrating the accomplishments of their seniors and will then take the court for their final regular season game. The pre-game ceremony will honor the senior members of the team and their families. Refreshments and food at the event will be provided by Napolitano Brothers of Levittown.
