The Island Trees Varsity Wrestling team defeated Glen Cove 41-24. The Bulldogs started off strong and never looked back, winning eight of 13 weight classes. On Saturday, Jan. 8, the Bulldogs took third place in the prestigious Ted Petersen Tournament held at the Island Trees High School. The team had four wrestlers in the finals. Freshman Tom Willoughby and junior Joe Cusker won championships. Joe Cusker was also awarded the most pins in the least amount of time. Senior Mike Cama became the first wrestler to reach 100 wins since 1988. Other place winners in the tournament were Juan Marin (third), Dan Eberlein (third), Kris Kellam (second) and Mike Cama (second).

It was a great effort by the girls varsity bowlers and congratulations to the JV bowlers on their win over Bellmore-Merrick. Excellent games were bowled by Samantha Rooks with a 147, Amy Strickland with a 144, Ingrid Gomez with a 197 and Jen Lovaglio with a 174.

The eighth grade boys basketball team played a great game defeating a tough Wisdom Lane team at home. After coming out slow in the first half, the Bulldogs went on a 24-10 run over the third and fourth periods to break the game wide open. John Howard led the way with 10 points, Ryan Tolan added nine, John Thearle, Matt Passatempo, Dan Nicolino, Stephan Barea and Tom Hart each had four points, Eric Fazio and Nick Bruzzese each had three points and Anthony Pascalli, Dominick D'Agostino and Andy Kohl each had two points apiece. The team continued its winning ways with a 53-35 win at Plainview. John Howard continued his great play, leading the team with 14 points. Ryan Tolan once again dominated the paint, adding 13 points. John Thearle also scored in double figures, adding 10 points. Nick Bruzzese and Tom Hart each had four points. Dan Schulz, Dan Nicolino and Anthony Mele each had two and Dave Fuentes and Eric Fazio each added a bucket.

The seventh grade boys basketball team finished their season against Plainview with a very close two-point loss. The boys made a great run with three minutes left in the game and had a chance to tie the game with just three seconds left. The team never gave up throughout the game and showed tremendous heart as they did all season. The team was led in scoring by Anthony Ciaramitaro, who had a solid game with 13 points. Other scorers for the team included Bryan Verbitsky with nine points, Rob Castillo and Pete Thearle each had seven points, Anthony Wrightington and Tyler Bauer had three points each and Dan Bartlett and Mike Guerrini each had a basket.

Congratulations to the seventh grade girls volleyball team on their 3-2 win over Plainview. The Lady Dogs dominated the match both offensively and defensively. Tremendous serving ability was displayed by Jessica Pierre-Tijero, Michelle Giordano, Marisela Franco and Alana Caffrey. Dana Colleluori, Gina Lyons and Brittany McMahon showed notable hitting ability. The Lady Dogs also won their last match of the season against Mattlin and again dominated the match. Tremendous serving ability was displayed by Jaclyn Carabott, Gina Lyons, Dana Colleluori, Jackie Kupfer and Michelle Giordano. Sam Buda and Alana Caffrey showed notable hitting ability. The team played extremely well and should be proud of their performances.

The girls eighth grade volleyball team lost a tough match to Mattlin 3-2. Ashley Moore played an outstanding game with her hustle and by serving for six points, three of them aces. Christina Doscher drilled two shots for kills, keeping us in the game. In the final game, Deanna Brown served 11 straight points, four of them aces. Great job by the entire team.
