Bob Driver, a docent of the Levittown Museum, lectures a second-grade class.

The society has been very busy hosting tours for the Levittown second-graders of the Levittown Museum. Approximately 550 children tour and learn about the history, the games of the '40s and '50s and generally discover about Levittown life at that time. The hard working docents enjoy the tours as much as the children. The classes follow up the visits with thank you notes which are both appreciated and heartwarming. Scout groups and other school districts' children also tour the museum.
We have a winner in the Second Annual Levittown Most Beautiful Home and Garden contest. Carole Rathsam of Hamlet Road is a grand winner. She won the society's prize of a $50 gift certificate to Domenicos. Those who wanted to participate this year, but missed, keep in mind next year's contest.
The society has many visitors. One outstanding one was the grandson of William Levitt, David Levitt. He is making a documentary about his grandfather's life. Spending three hours in the museum, he interviewed both the president, Polly Dwyer, and board member, Bob Koenig, who had given him a museum tour.
For the month of October, the society had an extensive exhibit in the display area of the Levittown Public Library. The showcase was about William Levitt and the walls had "Glimpses of Early Levittown." In conjunction with the October display, the society's general meeting's program was a slide presentation of the history of Levittown given by Vice President Paul Manton, and President Polly Dwyer spoke about the museum.
Plans are made for a Vintage Fashion show to be held on Jan. 15, 2005 at Domenicos from noon - 4 p.m. Authentic fashions of the '40s, '50s and '60s, will be featured as well as music, history and dance of those times. Tickets are available by calling 735-9060.
All are welcome to the society's general meetings on the third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Levittown Public Library in Meeting Room A. Nov. 15th's meeting will have as its program "Seniors and the Law."
