The girls JV Volleyball team won its second game in a dominating fashion by beating Carle Place 3-0. Nicole Doller and Lauren Mahlstadt combined for eight aces in the first game. Kristin Augeri had two aces and came up with a great dig to help the team win game two. In game three, the girls battled back with a total team effort, highlighted by Andrea Fragolletti, Heather Mitchell and Catie Hollett. Great job to the entire team.
The Island Trees Girls JV Soccer team lost a tough one yesterday to Herricks by the score of 3-2. After falling behind 1-0 in the middle of the first half, Maria Famularo scored on a direct kick to tie the score at one. The Bulldogs closed the gap in the second half when Marissa Passatempo scored the team's second goal. Kristen Weinman and Jamie Ruiz had a great game on offense while Brittney Guerrini and Maria Famularo played solid defense.
The boys cross-country team placed second in their tri-meet on Thursday, Sept. 30, by defeating West Hempstead and just losing to Plainedge by a score of 29-30. The meet was won by Steve Battafarano, who covered the 2.5 mile course in just over 15 minutes. Joe Cusker finished third, Fred Koromi finished fifth and Anthony Benvenutu finished seventh.
The boys eighth-grade soccer team played a great game yesterday but came up short, 1-0 to Seaford. Outstanding plays were made by Stephen Barea, Eric Fazio, Tom Hart, Mike Pellegrino, Jimmy Scofield and Sean Busch. Great job in goal by Chris Bourgade.
The seventh-grade boys soccer team defeated Plainview yesterday 5-2. Two goals were scored by Yovani Cruz. Other goals were by Nick Devecchis, Guisseppe Ferraro and Mike Fontana. Thomas Enders was outstanding in goal and the defense was also outstanding.
A job well done goes out to the girls seventh-grade soccer team on Monday's game against Salk. Although the Lady Dogs were unable to clinch the win, they stayed alive throughout the very physical game. Keeper, Jackie Kupfer is credited with making 14 saves over four periods of play. Midfielders Kaitlynn Van Alst and Jennifer Cruz controlled the ball well down the middle, while fullbacks Dana Collelouri, Briana Santacroce, Anne Badolato and Marisela Franco performed well at defense.
