Watching the Weather Channel all day, it seemed unlikely that the Red Devils would even have a game. With torrential rains all morning and high winds all day, give the groundkeepers at Broad Channel credit for having the field in good shape for the game. It was a typical fall night for football at Broad Channel, the winter coats and blankets were out. The cheerleaders were cheering the fans packed the stands and the players were pumped up to play. After a short warm up the captains went out for the coin toss and the game began.
The RD Seniors received the ball first. After a nice kick return by Arton Lekaj, QB Frank Baglivo led his offense on to the field. On the first play, Baglivo handed the ball off to RB Anthony Wrightington, who made his way down to the 2-yard line on a dazzling 35-yard run. On the next play Arton Lekaj blasted his way into the end zone for the first Red Devil score. On their next possession the offense drove down the length of the field, where Arton Lekaj took the ball off tackle for the senior's second score. The RD seniors offense looked unstoppable. The next drive was just as impressive as the one before. It ended with QB Frank Baglivo dancing untouched into the end zone on a perfectly executed QB draw. Nick Butrico kicked the ball through the uprights for the extra point. All of the running backs made outstanding contributions. They are Joe Fiore, Maritza Mazzara, Bobby Montwill, Brandon Mulholland, Anthony Pascalli and Robert Ward. The offensive line play was fantastic. They could not be successful without them. They are CJ Auld, Anthony Benciverga, Joe Cataldo, Brian Connors, Nick DeFranco, Jorge Fernandez, Kyle Kriner, Monica Morace, Adam Vasquez, Charles Barnes and Ray Zdrodowski. Tom Broschardt did a great job once again, coming in for Baglivo at QB when they pulled him, Fiore, Lakaj and Wrightington from the game.
Their tenacious defense was tremendous. They made stop after stop, and haven't been scored on yet. They are Andrew Baker, Nick Butrico, Rob Castillo, Nick Grossjung, Tiberio Herrera, Stefan Leslie, Darren Moran, Nick Murray, Don Polite, Joe Sorissi and TJ Speicher.
Next Sunday at 2 p.m. they have an away game at Farmingdale. They are a formidable opponent, so it should be an exciting game.
