An abundant schedule of entertainment at the second annual YOM Harvest Festival will include the world renowned Flying Wallendas performing their breathtaking stunts on the high wire.
Crafts, harvest displays, rides and midway attractions, a farmer's market, fireworks and performances by local professional groups are part of the attractions open to visitors at the second annual Harvest Festival sponsored by Yours Ours Mine Community Center. The event, which marks YOM's 40th anniversary, is being held from September 16 through 19 behind the Tri-County Flea Market in Levittown.
Rides and the midway games will open on Thursday at 5 PM. "Levittown schools are closed on Friday, so we're hoping for a nice turnout from the very onset," says Louise Cassano, chairperson of the Festival and a YOM board trustee.
"Blue Sky Amusements, the carnival operators, provide rides for all ages, and, of course, there's always the tempting foods and desserts. So, there will be something to entertain everyone," continues Cassano.
Discount vouchers, good for most rides, are available at a cost of $12, a savings of $8 on the box office price. A voucher can be used on any day of the festival. On Saturday and Sunday, crafts people will be selling hand made merchandise and other sundries. Levittown's Waldbaum's supermarket and Pat's Farms in Merrick will be selling fresh produce and an array of colorful autumn flowers. Opportunities for craft vendors are still available. Entertainment begins on Friday night at 8 p.m. with the popular band Flashback, who performed at the Harvest Festival last year, playing classics hits of the '60s, '70s and '80s. That same night, Bay Fireworks will put on a beautiful display marking YOM's 40th anniversary.
On Saturday afternoon from 4 to 5 PM, Vintage '87, featuring 17-year-old, professional performers, Lindsey Sperber and Diana Rice, will present popular Broadway show tunes and other pop and original music selections. The girls, along with Richard Stuts, have been performing professionally since 1999 and received raves at last year's Harvest Festival.
Later that night, Borrowed Time, also a repeat performer from last year's festival, will entertain from 8 to 11 PM. The popular band plays a variety of toe-tapping pop music and classics that's sure to appeal to the audience.
The four-day event will be emceed by Dream Entertainment, which will be providing interactive entertainment for audiences throughout the weekend.
The Harvest Festival is a fundraising event sponsored by Yours Ours Mine Community Center, which is located at 152 Center Lane in Levittown. YOM, which has been a mainstay community based human services agency serving Levittown and its surrounding areas for 40 years. YOM runs before and after school child care programs, a Universal Pre-K program, a senior nutrition program, adult day Care services for seniors with Alzheimer and other dementia illnesses, and a variety of chemical dependency programs. Proceeds from the festival will benefit YOM's Nursery Day Care, Before and After School Child Care and Adult Day Care Services.
