For most of us, hunger is a minor discomfort between meals. Unfortunately, for too many people, hunger is a crippling disease, a constant companion.

Stop World Hunger, Inc. is pleased to announced its 24th Annual Tennis Tournament to combat hunger where the need is greatest. All entry fees and donations are forwarded to Catholic Relief Services to feed hungry children in more than 90 countries. Assistance is provided based upon need, regardless of race, religion and/or nationality.

The tournament is designed for intermediate, advanced intermediate and advanced recreational tennis players. Based upon registration, divisions are set up according to the ability levels and geographic locations of the participants. There are divisions for men's and women's singles as well as a senior division for those who are 60 plus. Doubles divisions are for men, women's and mixed teams.

The cost for the tournament is $6 for singles and $10 for doubles. Tournament format is no elimination, round-robin play. Matches are the best two out of three sets. Players schedule their own matches at mutually convenient times and sites.

The deadline for registration is Friday, Aug. 27. All matches must be played between Sept. 4 and Nov. 15. Awards will be presented to the winner in each division at a special tennis party on Dec. 4.

Applications and more information may be obtained by writing to Stop World Hunger Tennis, 53 Elm Place, Amityville, NY 11701. Or, if you prefer, you may call Matt Swit at 631-789-3618.
