Arriving just in time for a perfect summer's day, Levittown Community Council's Lazy Days of Summer Picnic and Bake Off, offered a fun-filled day of free activities and entertainment for families on Saturday, July 17.
The event, held in July each year at the Jerusalem Avenue Pool at the East Village Green welcomes guests from Levittown and the surrounding areas for a lazy day of relaxation and family fun. A fishing pond for small children is always a big hit. This year prizes for the each of the fisherboys and fishergirls who caught a fish were underwritten by podiatrist, Dr. John Hickey whose offices are at 2870 Hempstead Turnpike. Winners of the basketball contests for all ages were rewarded with free pizza and soda donated by LaFocaccia Restaurant in the East Village Green and games of free bowling donated by Levittown Lanes at the North and South Village Greens.
Izzy's Ices at the East Village Green sponsored a Sponge Bob character who visited the event area and posed for pictures with the children and some adults. Izzy's, La Focaccia and Levittown Lanes also provided buy one/get one free coupons to distribute to all who attended the event.
Levittown Kiwanis sponsored the tatoos and face painting tables where volunteers, Mauro Cassano, Mary O'Gara, JoAnn Form, Louise Cassano and Donna Ryan were kept busy throughout the day.
Kite flying, with kites provided by the Community Council, was a new and popular event this year.
Music was provided by Mary and Irina O'Gara with the Rob Dover band performing mid afternoon.
