The Levittown Athletic Club Girls' Softball League hosted the 2004 Metro New York State Tournament over the weekend of July 9th through July 11th. Five teams from Levittown, Glen Cove, Queens, the Bronx and Yonkers competed in a double elimination tournament held at the Azalea Road Field.
Valerie Posillico and Liz Rosenthal put together the event with the help of their committee made up of parents from the league. We received nothing but praise from all of the visiting teams.
Thanks to Rich Weiss and the crew from Market Lane for making sure the fields were in great shape and the grounds were spotless.
Kate Murray, Town of Hempstead Supervisor, Assemblyman David McDonough and Councilman Gary Hudes attended the opening ceremonies on Saturday morning and threw out the first pitch.
Kate Murray welcomed our guests to Levittown and encouraged all of the girls, from all five teams, to play a good tournament. The Pelham Bay Belles, from the Bronx, went undefeated and won the State Title, receiving a plaque from Babe Ruth and the 12 and Under Banner for their league.
LAC would like to thank all of the local businesses that supported us throughout the year and during the tournament. Our Saturday morning breakfast was a huge success and as stated, Levittown and the Town of Hempstead received nothing but compliments from the Babe Ruth officials and all of the visiting parents.
LAC is happy to report that our 10 and under team, Managed by Chris McCoy and Coached by Bobby Tedeschi did win their tournament held in Staten Island and will be playing in the Regional Tournament beginning July 23 in Millville, New Jersey. LAC will be proud to hang their plaque and fly their banner. They were undefeated, winning three out of four of their games by 10 or more runs.
