The Division Baseball Team is proud to announce the players selected for post season honors based on their performance on the field during this past spring.
Going into this season, baseball coaches around the county thought very little of Division's chances for success, but the players stepped up to the plate and played good hard baseball day in and day out with very few off days. The Dragons went on to post a very strong 20-4-1 tie record and captured its 23rd league title in the last 26 seasons.
Seniors Tom Brussel (first baseman and left fielder) and second baseman Dan De Vivo were selected to the Honorable Mention All League team. Senior pitcher Zach Flinn was selected to the All League team. This year's league leading hitter, right fielder Chris Lombardo, together with shortstop Dan Cooley were selected to the All Conference team.
This year Division had five players selected to the All County team, the most players Division has ever had selected to an All County team in one season in the history of the school. Catcher James Hickey was also selected as the league MVP based on his defense, hitting and baserunning. Kevin Gerard was a finalist for the Diamond Award based on his 8-0 pitching record. Kevin was one of only two starters in Nassau County with an unblemished pitching record. Outfielder Brian Chenicek, who was one of the top RBI men in the county, was also selected. Junior third baseman Joe Cardone and pitcher/DH Garrett Douglas were also selected All County.
On top of all these honors Division had two players receive baseball scholarships as Kevin Gerard and Brian Chenicek both received baseball scholarships from CW Post.
It was a great year for the Dragons and coaches look forward to watching the progress of the guys as they go onto college next season.
