This year, the Division varsity team finished its season with a 20-4 record. This record was good enough to earn the league A-3 League title. This was Division's 23rd league title in the past 26 years dating back to 1979. Not only did the Dragons win the league title, they made it to the fourth round of the Nassau County playoffs for the third straight year.

Prior to this season starting the Dragons were a team that was not taken very seriously, but because of the hard work and dedication of its players, Division was able to achieve beyond the expectations that everyone had for them. An area not to be taken lightly was team spirit and moral, this certainly was a very strong point for the team and gave them the ability to succeed in tough games.

Highlights for the season include three wins over Glen Cove (who is playing Garden City for the county title), two of them in extra innings, and a hard fought 4-3 victory over the Clarke Rams (who were the two-time returning county champions).

Last year's Division team was noted for good pitching and light hitting, having only one player bat over .300. This year's team also had a strong pitching staff led by Kevin Gerard, who was 8-0, Garrett Douglas, who was 6-1, and Zach Flinn, who was 3-2, as well as Joe Seide who supplied some strong relief.

As mentioned earlier, hitting was a strong point this year with the team average being higher than the batting average of the highest batting average of any player. The team was led by Chris Lombardo, who hit .518 for the second highest season average of anyone in school history. Junior Joe Cardone hit .383, James Hickey hit .453, Junior Garrett Douglas hit .419, Dan Cooley hit .377 while supplying fantastic defense at the shortstop position. Other big hitters were Dan De Vivo at .343, with Chris Carbone, Tom Brussel, Jon Franco and Mike Oliveri adding additional offense.

Clutch hitting was a key throughout the year with Brian Chenicek and Garrett Douglas each recording 32 RBIs. Other big RBI men were Joe Cardone with 30, Kevin Gerard with 22, James Hickey with 20 and Tom Brussel with 18. What makes this so impressive is that last season the Dragons did not have one 20 RBI man. Defense was also a key with the Dragons turning 15 double plays on the year.

The coaches want to compliment this year's team and wish the seniors good luck upon graduation, but at the time they are looking for more of the same next season with a few players returning and a JV that was 20-0 this past season.
