Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray welcomed children of town employees for "Bring Your Children to Work Day" late last month. Over 50 children participated in the event, which presented a great opportunity for them to learn about their parents' careers.

"This event offers a wonderful opportunity for children to see what their parents do on a regular basis at work," Murray said. "It is because of their hard work and dedication that the Town of Hempstead is recognized as one of the best run townships anywhere."

Children were greeted by the supervisor and met with members of the town board. Participants learned about the United States flag etiquette program, the town's animal shelter and the new child safety ID program. A model of the USS Spadefish submarine, which was used in WWII, was also on display for the youngsters to enjoy. Children then spent the rest of the day with their parents, helping them to perform their duties.

"The Town of Hempstead was pleased to participate in Bring Your Children to Work Day," said Town Clerk Mark Bonilla. "Children experienced the governmental process and witnessed their parents working to make our town operate efficiently."
