The Division Avenue HS Dragons opened up the Plainedge series with a 17-0 victory. Senior Kevin Gerard pitched six innings of shutout ball, scattering 3 hits and striking out 9 batters against a tough Plainedge batting order. Ryan McDermott completed the shutout with a scoreless inning of relief.
Offensively, the Dragons were led by Junior Garrett Douglas, who was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, a homer and 6 runs batted in. Brian Chenicek had 3 hits with 2 RBIs and junior Joe Cardone had 2 hits with 3 runs scored. Kevin Gerard chipped in with a homer of his own while Dan Cooley hit a 3 run double to break the game open in the early innings.
The very next day Plainedge bounced back with a 4-2 victory over Division. Zach Flinn pitched well enough to win but sloppy defense and poor baseball judgment hurt Division in the field. Only one earned run scored against Zach who went 8 innings scattering 4 hits. Division had 7 hits with 6 walks but couldn't get the key hit at the right time. Dan Cooley had 3 hits and Chris Lombardo had 2 hits for the Dragons.
The Dragons bounced back in game three with a 13-6 victory despite some shabby defense for the second straight game. Garrett Douglas got the win allowing only 2 hits over 6 innings. Defensively Dan Cooley shined at shortstop.
The Dragons offense was led by Joe Cardone with 3 hits including a grand slam homer. James Hickey had 2 hits, Garrett Douglas had 3 hits to go along with his win, Chris Lombardo had 3 hits, Dan Cooley had 2 hits and junior Jon Franco had 3 hits with 3 runs scored.
This coming week Division has a bye, but starts the first round of the Nassau County Playoffs on Saturday, May 13 at a site yet to be determined against an opponent to be decided on as the regular season plays out these next two weeks.
