The Division Avenue High School Varsity Baseball Team was snowed out of its first two games of the season. Last Thursday, the Dragons game with West Hempstead was canceled and last Saturday's game with Port Washington was also canceled. (These games were rescheduled for March 23 and 25).

Although the team was disappointed that the season opening games were cancelled, they have maintained a very positive outlook as they prepare for the upcoming season. This year's team is fortunate to have a lot of returning players who have been through a championship season, as well as being battle tested in the Nassau County Tournament.

The Dragons have lost in the county semi-finals the last two years and have set high standards for themselves for this season. This year there is a lot of top competition throughout the county and for any team to win it this year it will take not only talent but a great work ethic and a strong belief in their ability. Clarke HS is without a doubt the favorite to return to the county finals after having won the county title the last two consecutive years. They are the last team to win two successive titles since Division won a three peat in 95, 96 and 97, and losing in the county finals in 94 and 98. Other top teams include Wantagh, Bethpage, MacArthur, Garden City, Island Trees, Glen Cove, Lynbrook and Plainedge.

This year the Dragons return seniors Tom Brussel (1st, LF), Chris Carbone (C, 1st), Brian Chenicek (CF, P), Dan Cooley (SS, P), Dan DeVivo (second), Bobby Drezner (first), Zach Flinn (P, OF), Kevin Gerard (P, 1st), James Hickey (C), Chris Lombardo (RF), Ryan McDermott (P, first), Rob Flock (P), Jon Franco (SS, LF), Mark Mondello (LF) and Mike Oliveri (2nd, OF).

With such a good group of guys who have displayed willingness to work hard to achieve their goals, the Dragons are anxiously awaiting the start of the 2004 season.
