My name is Joseph Moriarity. I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 656 out of Wantagh. I am currently working toward Eagle Scout. One of the requirements to become an Eagle Scout is the Eagle Project. This project must be of benefit to the community. The Scout must show leadership in this project by planning, fund raising, acquiring volunteers, and supervising project to the finish.

My Eagle project will consist of : a memorial garden, in the memory of

Mr. John Monteleone. Mr. Monteleone was a teacher at Abbey Lane School in Levittown. I knew Mr. Monteleone( or Mr. Mont to his students), through the L.A.P. Program. Mr. Mont was the teacher in charge of this afterschool program.

I plan on building a garden and planting many different types of shrubs and plants. Possibly, if there is room, I would like to place a bench or benches so people could sit and enjoy the area or simply a quiet place to go in order to meditate. I would also like to place a boulder in this garden with a memorial plaque affixed to it in memory of Mr. Monteleone.

My Eagle project will benefit Abbey Lane Elementary School, the Levittown Community, and the family of Mr. John Monteleone.

My project will be of benefit to these groups because, not only will it be a nice garden that will have everybody's last respects but it will also be something fresh and new for the rest of the community and school to look at.

This will benefit the school because it will keep the memory of Mr. Monteleone alive for the students, graduates and the faculty members of Abbey Lane Elementary School. Mr. Monteleone was a great teacher who has touched the lives of many students and faculty members.

I will have not only Scouts from my troop but students and people who knew Mr. Monteleone that will be working on my project with me.

For fund raising of this project, I have planned several events which include two nights at Burger King, which we collect receipts from customers and receive a percentage. A car wash (depending on weather) is planned. I am also putting boxes around classrooms for bottle and can donations.

Fliers will be distributed at the Levittown schools for donations, whether it be plants or money, any little bit helps.

I am sending this letter to friends and organizations in hopes to receive any type of donation for my Eagle Project. I plan on breaking ground on March 26, 2004. This should give me 2-3 weekends of working on the garden. The garden must be completed no later than April 23, 2004.

I want to thank you in advance for any help you can avail to me.
