Dignitaries Break Ground on Nassau County 9/11 Memorial
During a somber ceremony at Eisenhower Park March 11, President George Bush, flanked by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Governor George Pataki, County Executive Tom Suozzi, Ian Siegel, president of the Nassau County 9/11 Memorial Foundation, Arlene Howard, mother of the late George Howard, and Janet Wexler-Magee, wife of the late Charles Magee, helped break ground at the site of a future memorial that will honor hundreds of Nassau County 9/11 victims.

Residents, Organizations Honored at Eighth Annual Recognition Night for Community Service
The Levittown School District hosted its Eighth Annual Recognition Night for Community Service last Thursday, honoring those individuals who go to great lengths to help others in the community through various organizations. The ceremony was held at the Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center at the Levittown Memorial Educational Center and was preceded by a delicious dinner annually coordinated by culinary arts students at the center.

St. Bernard's Intermediate Boys Go Undefeated to Win 2003-04 Division Championship
Congratulations to Notre Dame, winners of St. Bernard's sixth and seventh grade boys intermediate basketball championship. The boys' 38-31 win completed a dream season, with a 13-0 record with Chris Bourgade hitting his final four foul shots to beat LSU. Coaches Mike Pellegrino and Gary Ferraro are proud of the boys' achievements this year and commend all the boys for their team play in which everyone contributed with scoring and fine play.

The eighth grade Girls Basketball team put together a strong defensive effort to defeat a tough Woodland team. The Lady Dawgs used their athleticism and their hustle to come up with loose balls and tough rebounds against the bigger Woodland team. Jena Leardo and Kristen Burgos paced the attack with eight points each. Angelika Paskins added five, Rachel Trager and Kristen Walsh chipped in four points and Gina Ciaravino, Kelly Cala and Kristin Vesely each had a basket. The team combined for 14 steals and 12 blocks on the defensive end to seal the victory. Patricia Brewer, Jessica Greene, Brianne Lopez, Marissa Sciacca, Lauren Lucas, Lauren Maniace and Andrea Fragoletti provided great effort and hustle throughout the game.
