When I was inducted into our organization in 1984, we were told, "You join Kiwanis when you pay you dues ... you become a Kiwanian when you get active in your club"... Maybe you can't make Thursday night meetings, but everybody can contribute in some way - attending sponsored youth. Terrific Kids, or other afternoon programs ... performing a service project such as the fingerprinting and food drives we hold every year, interclubbing, sponsoring a Kamper or buying a raffle ticket. Maybe every week is impossible - Kiwanians are often busy in other professional, family and civic activities - but 1 or 2 days or nights a month, at an average of 1-2 hours each time, can make a tremendous difference. Whether you find room in your heart, your hands or your wallet-we need Kiwanians, not just members of Kiwanis. Please, be a Kiwanian!

The Levittown Kiwanis is planning a 5K Run in June. Would you like to be a sponsor or a runner? Please contact Mr. Kevin Regan at 731-5016. We also need volunteers to help that day. All the proceeds go to Kiwanis sponsored charities!

Sunday, March 21, is a very special day for the Levittown Kiwanis Club. That day is the start of LEADD Week (Levittown Education Against Destructive Decisions) for the Levittown School District.

The morning starts at 7 a.m. in the Panther Room Restaurant at Levittown Memorial. The Levittown Kiwanis Club will be holding their Annual Pancake Breakfast. Some of our members will also be there all morning fingerprinting and photographing youngsters. This has become a traditional yearly project the Levittown Kiwanis Club does for the community.

What could you do for your community? Think about it!

Remember the summer is on its way. The Levittown Kiwanis Club gives out scholarships to high school seniors every year. They also send needy children from the community to Camp Kiwanis. Please send your donation to:

Kiwanis Club of Levittown, Inc.

PO Box 152

Levittown, NY 11756

Please mark on your check what to use the funds for: Scholarship or Summer Camp or both. The more we collect, the more we can do for the young people of Levittown.

Would you like to help us help young children? Then join us.

Would you like to join an organization of community people who give back to their community? Are you interested in joining? Please come to one of our meetings for a "look see." I guarantee you'll be impressed.

Did you know Kiwanis has a website? For you computer hackers: check out the Kiwanis International website at www.kiwanis.org.

Please save all your soda/drink flip top tabs and all your Campbell soup labels and General Mills box tops and turn them in to the Levittown Kiwanis Club at one of our meetings. You may ask: why labels and soda tabs? The labels and box tops go to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, which they redeem for a monetary amount. The soda tabs go to the Fork Lane School in Hicksville and they give them to the Nassau County Medical Center Burn Unit.
