Legislator Dennis Dunne Sr. approved a personal service contract to provide vocational training for Nassau County's 71 volunteer fire departments The Rules Committee for the Nassau County Legislature voted unanimously to approve the contract with the Vocational, Education and Extension Board (VEEB).

"The work done by the Vocational, Education and Extension Board is critical in protecting the lives of the people in Nassau County," Dunne said.

The board has been providing training to Nassau County's volunteer fire departments since 1962. The approval of this $3.6 million contract guarantees that VEEB will be providing services to Nassau's fire departments through the end of 2004.

"I am very pleased that we were able to finalize this contract. Our volunteer firefighters put their lives on the line each and every day. We are obligated to provide them with all the tools necessary so they can continue to serve the people of Nassau County at the highest level," Dunne added.
