Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes recently attended the Bagel Bowl Fundraiser, which was sponsored by the East Meadow Hadassah-Simcha Group. The Bagel Bowl Fund Raiser was held at the East Meadow Bowling Alley and net proceeds will benefit Hadassah's "Check it Out" program.
Councilman Hudes, a long-time supporter of the "Check it Out" program, has spent countless hours working with Hadassah to bring this outstanding program to the East Meadow School District. In 2002, Councilman Hudes helped Hadassah implement a program for testicular cancer and breast cancer awareness for the young men and women at both high schools. The program has been a great success and is taught by highly qualified healthcare professionals. The program divides senior boys and girls into separate groups where the females are taught about the risks of breast cancer and the males are taught about the risks of testicular cancer.
"Having had a close family friend who was diagnosed with testicular cancer at a very young age, I have seen the need for our youth to be educated about breast and testicular cancer," said Councilman Hudes. "Early detection helps to significantly limit the number of fatalities caused by these deadly diseases. For that reason alone, I find these programs to be extremely beneficial to our children."
