Kiwanis International is an organization of community service clubs with more than 320,000 members in 8,500 clubs throughout the world, half of which are located in North America. A Kiwanis club is a group of local business people with a typical membership of 25 to 60 people; however, the larger clubs number about 500. Each Kiwanis club meets once a week and has several committees that implement service projects.
Kiwanis members are called Kiwanians. (This is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable: Ki-wan-ee-an).
The average Kiwanian is 55 years old. Forty percent of members are mid-level executives, 30 percent are entrepreneurs, and the remaining 30 percent represent other professions or are retirees.
Kiwanis clubs are organized into divisions, with generally 8 to 15 clubs in each one. Divisions are organized into districts, which may cover one state or several states. Districts vary in size from 100 to 600 clubs.
Would you like to help us help young children? Then join us.
Would you like to join an organization of community people who give back to their community? Are you interested in joining? Please come to one of our meetings for a "look see." I guarantee you'll be impressed.
Did you know Kiwanis has a website? For you computer hackers: check out the Kiwanis International website at www.kiwanis.org.
Please save all your soda/drink flip top tabs and all your Campbell soup labels and General Mills box tops and turn them in to the Levittown Kiwanis Club at one of our meetings. You may ask: why labels and soda tabs? The labels and box tops go to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, which they redeem for a monetary amount. The soda tabs go to the Fork Lane School in Hicksville and they give them to the Nassau County Medical Center Burn Unit.
