The Levittown Library table offers an opportunity for kids and adults to walk away with book selections of their choice at no cost.

The weather outside may be frightful, but the festivities inside will be delightful and inviting to children and adults when the Levittown Community Council holds its third annual Winter Festival.

The event will be hosted by the Levittown School District in the Panther Room at the Levittown Memorial Education Center on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Winter Festival is a day of family fun with games and activities, music and karaoke, and community organizations offering activities for family enjoyment. In previous years, the event drew more than 300 people who seemed to thoroughly enjoy the days' activities.

The Community Council provides crafts and games and music for singing along and dancing, if anyone is so motivated. Community organizations, who are members of the Community Council, provide other activities such as face painting and instant tattoos by Levittown Kiwanis; a model train exhibit and demonstration by Nassau Lionel Operating Engineers; drug awareness information by Levittown VFW and a free book distribution by the Levittown Library. Other community organizations are invited to join the Council and to participate in the day's activities.

Girl Scouts of Nassau County provide assistance with the games and activities as part of their community service activities. "The Girls Scouts have been a tremendous help in the past. We have really come to rely on their very mature and ambitious help," said Donna Ryan, president of the Community Council.

Refreshments will be available at a very minimal cost. "This is a family day that is the winter counterpart of the Council's Lazy Day of Summer Picnic held every July," Ryan said. "Our intention is that everyone who comes has a good time and leaves feeling that they enjoyed the day. We've accomplished that in the past and feel confident that we'll do it again this year."

For more information on this event, contact Donna Ryan at 731-1999.

The Levittown Community Council is an association of residents and organizations in Levittown and the surrounding communities which is dedicated to maintaining pride and unity in the community. Membership in the organization is $10 per individual; $15 per family and $50 per organization. Organization members may appoint three delegates to the Council. For more information on joining the Community Council, please contact either Ryan or Louise Cassano at 735-5901.
