The Levittown/Island Trees Youth Council, in cooperation with North and South Levittown Lanes, offers a winter recreational program for school age children; kindergarten through middle school. All bowling is supervised, everyone receives a "participation award" in addition to team position trophies for the "competitive" junior leagues, and all competition is handicapped at 100 percent, meaning bonus pins are awarded to lower average teams, making all competition fair. Individual statistics on each bowler are published weekly along with team standings sheets.
The winter season begins on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at North Levittown Lanes, or children may choose to join North Levittown's Thursday afternoon program, which bowls at 4 p.m. and begins Thursday, Jan. 15. All children in grades K-5 are invited to join either of these programs. North Levittown Lanes' popular Tuesday evening "Middle School League" has added a second night, Friday evenings at 7 p.m. to accommodate those middle school students shut out of Tuesday's 7 p.m. league. The Friday night program begins Jan. 16.
South Levittown Lanes starts their winter Levittown/Island Trees Youth Council programs a bit later, due to their hosting of the Nassau County High School League. They get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. Students in grades K-5 are invited to join.
Students and parents may register to bowl anytime by calling North Levittown Lanes at 735-3900 or South Levittown Lanes at 731-5700. Just tell them you want to join the Levittown/Island Trees Youth Council's Winter Bowling Program. You may also just stop by and register in person.
