The Island Trees School District celebrated the renovation of its high school auditorium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held during the district's holiday concerts earlier this month. Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes recently presented a Town of Hempstead Certificate of Recognition to the Whitcomb Family at the Madonna Heights Services 17th Annual Shepherd's Ball, which was held at the Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage State Park. The Levittown/Island Trees Youth Council, in cooperation with North and South Levittown Lanes, offers a winter recreational program for school age children; kindergarten through middle school. All bowling is supervised, everyone receives a "participation award" in addition to team position trophies for the "competitive" junior leagues, and all competition is handicapped at 100 percent, meaning bonus pins are awarded to lower average teams, making all competition fair.
