Over the weekend, the Bulldogs wrestling team participated in the Sayville Tournament. Anthony Vecchione took home a 1st place medal at the 189 pound weight class. Kris Kellan, Mike Cama and Greg Schwab all placed in the top 4 in their weight classes. All wrestlers did a great job. The Bulldogs defeated Hicksville at home. Great performances were put in by Kris Kellam, Joe Cusker, Mike Gama, Tommy Carroll, Julio Fuentes and all of the Bulldogs. The wrestling team defeated Wantagh 40-20. The Bulldogs were led by seniors Anthony Vecchione and Tom Carroll who both recorded 6 point wins. Juniors Mike Cama, Kevin Cusker and Juan Marin also recorded decisions for the team. Sophomores Joe Cusker, Bryan Henriques and Kris Kellam all scored big victories over their opponents. In the match of the night, sophomore Dan Eberlein crushed highly regarded Eric Heathaus 7-0 to vault himself into the mix for a Nassau County title. The Bulldogs will be heading north of the border for a big duel meet tournament at Minisink Valley, wish us luck!
The boys and girls teams won their position round 36-8. The highlights for the girls were Geri Silverio with a 203. The highlights for the boys were Steve Perkowski who averaged a 234 with a high game of 247 and Adam Chase who averaged a 249 with a high game of 268. Both boys bowled 700 series.
The Boy's J.V. basketball team opened up its season against MacArthur in the Levittown Holiday Tournament. After a rocky beginning, the Bulldogs settled down nicely and put some pressure on the Generals after their early lead. Although the Dawgs didn't come up with the win, they showed their fierce determination up until the final buzzer. Contributing for the Bulldogs was Marshall Trager with 17 points, Jonathan Pierro with 8 points, Jonathan Bartlett had 7 points and Chris Caragher had 5 points. The J.V. team then lost in the consolation game of the tournament by the score of 62-53 to Division Avenue. The Dawgs were in a good fight for the majority of the game against their cross-town rivals. However, Division's consistent shooting from the outside was too much to overcome. Leading the scoring for the Bulldogs was Chris Caragher with 17 points, Paul Fontana had 13 points, Jonathan Pierro and Joe Ciaravino each had 8 points. The Bulldogs had one player selected to the All-Tournament Team and that was Jonathan Pierro. The Bulldogs open up at home on Tuesday, Jan. 6 against Bethpage.
Congratulations to the girls seventh-grade volleyball team on its 5-0 win over Plainview. Meghan Biondolillo had an amazing 12-point serving run in game 3 helping the Lady Dogs clinch the win. Stephanie Kaiser, Rebecca Burleson, Meghan Carey and Danielle Doller also had notable serving games, while Samantha Cranmer and Alison Gronenthal used communication and hitting skills to move the ball around the court.
The eighth-grade boys' basketball team got its first win of the season over a tough Bethpage team. The team put forth a tremendous effort on defense to secure the victory. Frank Baglivo led the way offensively with a season high 24 points, including 6 made free throws in the final minutes. Ronnie Modik had a tremendous all-around game with 5 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 10 steals. Jesse Matarese and Matt Condy played outstanding defense in the low post against the bigger Bethpage team. Justin Heisig contributed 6 points, John Bruno and Arton Lekaj added 4 and Paul DelGiacco and Boccy Colleluori added 2 points each. The boys seventh-grade basketball team won an exciting game against Wisdom Lane by a score of 53-50 in a packed gym. With the win, the team improved their record to an impressive 6 and 1. After getting off to a slow start in the first period, the team battled back by playing great man-to-man defense down the stretch. Eric Fazio inspired the team with his defensive play in the second period with over 6 steals. With the score tied in the final minutes of the game, John Howard hit 2 clutch, free throws to put the Bulldogs ahead for good. John Thearle dominated the game offensively, scoring 15 points and dishing over 5 assists. Also scoring for the team were Ryan Tolan with 7, John Howard added 8, Eric Fazio had 5, Stephan Barea, Tom Hart and Anthony Mele all had 4 points each and Anthony Pascalli, Matt Passatempo and Dylan Caragher each dropped a basket.
