Mother Nature may provide the natural snowy aesthetics once again, but it's the illusions of lights and garland and decorations that will get the nod from members of the Levittown Community Council who have volunteered to judge the homes nominated as best decorated.
For the fifth year, the Community Council is sponsoring the Home for the Holidays contest and members of the community are encouraged to nominate a home they think is most beautifully decorated.
Levittown has been divided into six sectors from Seaman Neck Road in the east to Wolcott Road in the west and from North Jerusalem Road in the south to Spindle Road in the north. Groups of volunteers in each sector will be scouting for those homes nominated and those they think are beautifully decorated. Homes will be photographed and the final decisions, made by the volunteers, will be submitted to the Council. There will be a winner in each sector, each of whom will receive a prize.
Nominations must be postmarked no later than Dec. 27. Decisions will be announced at the beginning of January and winners will receive their prizes at the January 29 meeting of the Levittown Community Council, held at the Levittown Memorial Education Center at 7:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in nominating their own home or a neighbor's, should send their name, address, phone number, email, address of the home they are nominating (a house number and street name must be included), name of the owners of the home (if known), and the nearest cross street and send it to: Home for the Holidays Contest, Levittown Community Council, PO Box 294, Levittown, NY 11756.
