Upon meeting Courtney Schmaeling for the first time one might come away with the impression that they just spoke with a tiny friendly young lady with an infectious smile. If you take time to really get to know Courtney, you will see she is this and so much more.
Courtney is a fierce competitor with the heart of a champion. She is the captain of the Girls' Varsity Soccer team at Division Avenue High School. In her role as captain she has led the Lady Dragons to the quarterfinals of the Nassau County playoffs this season. Courtney was the second leading scorer this year with 11 goals, including the game-winning goal in the first round of the playoffs. Courtney is one of the most decorated athletes on the soccer team, winning All-Conference honors three years in a row!
Not only is Courtney a fine athlete, she is also an excellent student. Courtney has a 93 percent grade point average and scored an 1140 on the SAT exams. These numbers were good enough for her to be selected by the Nassau County Coaches Association to the scholar athlete team.
After soccer is over, Courtney turns her attention to cheerleading and drama. Courtney is a member of the Varsity Basketball Cheerleading Squad as well as a member of the Competition Cheerleading team. When Courtney is not busy cheering she can be found in the auditorium practicing for the school play. Last year Courtney was one of the leads in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.
Teachers and coaches alike at Division Avenue High School agree without reservation that Courtney Schmaeling will be a smashing success in college next year. Courtney is currently considering Boston University, University of Maryland and the State University of New York at Binghamton.
