This year the Division Avenue High School athletic department is proud to announce that one of its senior athletes has just signed his national letter of intent for a baseball scholarship.

Division baseball player Kevin Gerard recently signed his letter of intent for a 90 percent tuition scholarship to Long Island University's CW Post Campus. Kevin is coming off a good high school season, in which he made honorable mention All League, based on his 3-1 record against the top teams in Nassau County. In 33 innings pitched, Kevin allowed 24 hits while striking out 54 batters and allowing only 18 walks.

This summer Kevin really made significant strides learning to throw a third pitch with command and really establishing himself as one of the better pitchers on Long Island. He made the Long Island Empire Baseball Team and was the starting pitcher in the fourth game of the tournament when the Islanders were really down going into the game with New York City with an 0-3 record. Kevin pitched brilliantly leading the Long Island team to its first win in the tournament.

On top of a very strong Empire State Tournament showing Kevin had a great year this summer with his regular summer league team, not allowing a run to be scored against him all summer long.

Kevin has big footprints to follow as he goes to CW Post, since they have had 10 Division grads attend and play baseball there over the years. The staff at Division is confident that Kevin is ready for the challenge as he works hard to prepare for the upcoming varsity baseball season this spring.
