The 9/10-year-old Levittown Northstars ended their fall season on another high note as they defeated the tough Commack Thunder team two times in a doubleheader last Sunday at Whelan Field.
The first game was one of the teams finest. They won by a score of 9-0. Tim Pappas pitched a complete game 58 pitch 1 hit shut out, while striking out 12. The only base runner was a first inning double. Joe Giglio, James Diprey, Ryan Donohue and Anthony Riccigliano made great fielding plays during the game.
The second game was won by a score of 6-2. The game was started by Joe Orth who pitched two no hit innings after a two-week hockey lay off. Nine-year-old Chris Gucciardo came in and kept the Commack team off stride for three more innings while striking out five. James Diprey came in and got his first save of the season to end the game.
No pitching can be complete without a catcher, and the Northstars have some fine ones. Sean Hesse threw out another would be base stealer and narrowly missed 2 more. John Milonakis made a superb play at the plate to stop a Thunder player from trying to steal home. Speaking of stealing home, Joe Giglio, James Diprey and Timmy Pappas each pilfered the plate once on Sunday with fine coaching from third base coach Loren LaBonte!
Chris Norcini made two nice plays in the field at first base to save a couple of runs.
The hitting stars of the day were Joe Giglio, Tim Pappas and Ryan Donohue.
The Northstars team wishes teammate Nicky Meadows a speedy recovery and offer condolences to the Albano family. We'll see the boys in the spring.
Lastly, they wish to thank Dennis Hesse for helping with the fields, and our team mom, Patrice Meadows for keeping everything running so smoothly.
