At a recent meeting, the Island Trees Board of Education elected Robert Condela as president for the 2003-2004 school year. Carl Bonsignore was elected vice president and new trustee Kenneth Fazio joined the veteran board of education this year after Jerry Donahue chose not to run after 15 years of service.

The board of education was very pleased with the strong support by the community for the September $6.1 million bond referendum vote. The 20-year bond was structured not to take effect until 2005 when the district's first bond will be fully paid off. The plan is to continue the "old bond" payment already factored into the budget so there would not be a need to raise taxes further to pay for the new bond. The $6.1 million is dedicated to replace the roofs at the high school, the middle school and the Gallow School. The remainder of the bond will be used to replace the aging heating plants in the six Island Trees school buildings.
The members of the board of education look forward to working closely with the district administrators, staff and parents to continue to offer the best educational programs possible while still trying to keep the school taxes as low as possible.
