The Levittown Kiwanis Club regrets having to cancel their Annual Garage Sale last September 6. We will be having a joint Garage Sale in the future with another Kiwanis Club. Please look for the notice in the Levittown Tribune. Some of our members were recently discussing the wonderful job Jerry Lewis does each year with his fund raising effort for MS. He helps raise millions of dollars just in telephone pledges. Our Levittown Kiwanis Club would like to do something like that for our graduating high school seniors. We realize the millions Jerry raises; for us, would be quite a stretch. But, we feel $50,000 would be a very attainable goal. It would be wonderful to give 50 $1,000 scholarships in June of 2004. We now give four scholarships each June to a graduating senior from Division Avenue, MacArthur, Memorial Career & Technical Center and Island Trees High School. The only way we can accomplish the 50 $1,000 scholarships is with the community's help. Just $1 from each resident from Levittown and Island Trees and we can reward 50 of our outstanding students in our community. Think about it? Are you interested in joining? Please come to one of our meetings for a "look see." I guarantee you'll be impressed. Did you know Kiwanis has a web site? For you computers hackers: check Kiwanis International website at www.kiwanis.org. Please, be a Kiwanian! Please be aware that the Levittown Kiwanis will soon be selling their club raffle tickets. The cost is $25 and there is a drawing every month. The prizes are: 1st prize $100 2nd prize $ 50 3rd prize $ 25 but the December drawing prize is: 1st prize $250 2nd prize $100 3rd prize $ 50 Are you feeling lucky? Stop by one of our weekly meetings and buy a ticket or two. The proceeds go to scholarships and summer camp. Please save all your soda/drink flip top tabs and all your Campbell soup labels and General Mills box tops and turn them in to the Levittown Kiwanis Club at one of our meetings. You may ask: why labels and soda tabs? The labels and box tops go to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, which they redeem for a monetary amount. The soda tabs go to the Fork Lane School in Hicksville and they give them to the Nassau County Medical Center Burn Unit.
We want to thank everyone for their support of this wonderful program. Over 1000 students have received a Terrific Kids certificate last year. Please watch for our bumper sticker.
