Island Trees Superintendent Richard N. Segerdahl was pleased to announce at the Sept. 24, board of education meeting that the $6.1 million bond referendum was passed by 88 percent.

The $6.1 million bond will be used for roof replacement and boiler and burner replacement. The roofs at the Geneva N. Gallow School, the middle school and the high school will be replaced. The burners and boilers throughout the district will also be replaced as they range in age from 45 years to 50 plus years.

The superintendent thanked the board of education and the residents for their support of the district's long range "Capital Improvement Plan." Segerdahl went on to state "by planning for these projects and not ignoring them until emergency replacement is necessary will save money and avoid additional problems and expenses."

With the bond projects now passed, the next step is to expedite the architectural drawings to Albany for approval. The hope is to receive approval quickly to allow bidding the roof and burner projects during the winter months and starting the projects in late June 2004.

Board President Robert Condela thanked the residents for their trust and pledged that the board would continue to work in concert with district administrators to spend the bond money wisely.
