  • Sports: Levittown Fever Wins Opener

Levittown Fever opened the season against Wantagh/Seaford. In its last two meetings, Fever lost and tied. Not to be this day, the team came out firing with a 4-0 lead at half, to end the game with a 6-0 win. The team, riding high with its win, went into the next week against New Hyde Park, Alley Cats, which was a game the Fever did not play up to par, losing the match 3-0. With hard practices during the week, the team met with the defending champions, Massapequa Tigers. The Tigers took the lead in the opening 10 minutes. With five minutes to half time, Fever was awarded a free kick just outside the 16 meter box. Kraig Bush took the kick hitting the cross bar where Christopher Maierle followed the kick with an explosive head ball into the left corner. The score was tied at the half 1--1. The Fever came out at half time like a pack of wolves to finish the meet. They scored three more goals to end the match 4-2. The second half scorers were Tommy Poulous and two goals from William Montgomery. With the league game behind them, the Fever had to play the next day in the first round of the State Cup. The game started slow for the Fever. A little tired from the day before, the Fever scored first with a Tommy Poulous goal. Not long after, Hicksville scored to tie the game 1-1. Logan Simone scored the pull away goal to make it 2-1 and then another from Michael Games to make it a 3-1 lead. Hicksville was determined to cut the lead to 3-2 when Michael Games scored his second goal of the game to make the lead 4-2. With less than 10 minutes left, the Hicksville Strikers scored again to make it 4-3. They kept pressuring, but with our defense, lead by Peter Poulous, Conor O'Leary, John Heidenfelder, JJ Kissane, and great goaltending by Owen McHugh, the Fever held the Strikers off to win the game 4-3. A tough battle in the middle lead by Christopher Maierle, William Montgomery, Kraig Bush and Johnny Pellegrino. The offense played to win with great moves to beat the defenders led by Billy Sinchuk, Logan Simone, Tommy Poulous, Christopher Perez and Michael Games. The boys played with heart and advanced to the next round to be played on Oct. 5 at 9:30 at Cuomo Field. Come down to cheer the boys on. Let's go Fever. FULL STORY
