Nighttime travel lane closures have begun on the Wantagh State Parkway and will continue each night, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., for approximately four weeks. Full northbound or southbound travel lanes will be closed on sections of the parkway between Old Country Road and the Southern State Parkway. Motorists are urged to use other routes such as Route 106, 107, Meadowbrook Parkway or Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway to help avoid delays. As with many roadway projects, this pavement repair operation is weather dependent and could be postponed or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Drivers are being provided with advanced information regarding the Wantagh Parkway travel lane closures and detours via roadside information signs. The following is the projected schedule of closings:

• This week, all southbound Wantagh Parkway travel lanes closed between Old Country Road and Hempstead Turnpike (NY Route 24).

• Next week, week of Sept. 29, all southbound Wantagh Parkway travel lanes closed between Hempstead Turnpike and Southern State Parkway.

• Week of Oct. 6, all northbound Wantagh Parkway travel lanes closed between Southern State Parkway and Hempstead Turnpike.

• Week of Oct. 13, all northbound Wantagh Parkway travel lanes closed between Hempstead Turnpike and Old Country Road.

These closures are needed as part of the NYS Department of Transportation's current project to correct the pavement deficiencies and help ensure the longevity of the Wantagh State Parkway. This repair work was scheduled to avoid the busy travel season to Jones Beach concerts and other area events. Long Island motorists are urged to drive carefully, exercise caution and detour information signs.
