  • News: Nighttime Travel Lane Closures Begin on Wantagh State Parkway

    Nighttime travel lane closures have begun on the Wantagh State Parkway and will continue each night, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., for approximately four weeks. Full northbound or southbound travel lanes will be closed on sections of the parkway between Old Country Road and the Southern State Parkway. Motorists are urged to use other routes such as Route 106, 107, Meadowbrook Parkway or Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway to help avoid delays. As with many roadway projects, this pavement repair operation is weather dependent and could be postponed or prolonged due to inclement weather. FULL STORY

  • News: Hempstead Town Supervisor Visits With Anton Editors

    After serving an approximate six months in office, Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray said she believes that many developments have taken place and plans for more in the future. In a recent interview with the editors of Anton Newspapers, the supervisor noted some successful town-wide developments, especially in the environmental area and those concerning quality of life issues for town residents.   • Sports: Island Trees High School Athletics

    On Friday, Sept. 12, the depleted Girls' Varsity Soccer team played Plainedge. With seven starters out hurt or playing with nagging injuries, the girls lost a tough one by the score of 4-3. However, they came back from a 3-0 deficit and were knocking at the door constantly. Unfortunately, they couldn't put in the tying goal. All three goals were scored on corner kicks. The first one was a picture play. In practice we set up a play for Kate Schamberger to come in on the corner kicks and try to score. As Megan Sguigna approached the ball to strike it, Kate came running in and volleyed the ball into the net. This gave the girls an uplift that carried thorough the remainder of the contest. The second goal once again was on a corner. Megan put up another great kick and Alyssa Fleming headed it in. The third was an own goal that we gave credit to Megan. FULL STORY
