Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and the town board hosted a sunrise memorial at Point Lookout Beach on Thursday, Sept. 11 in commemoration of the two-year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

At the first regular meeting of the Levittown Board of Education for the 2003-2004 school year, both administrators and the board agreed that the first week of school was a success, despite a few unavoidable problems.

Blue Dragons Kick Off Season
The Division Avenue Blue Dragons football team will be kicking off their 2003 season with a night game this Thursday evening in Plainedge at 7 p.m. This season comes with significant changes. Coach Fred Bruno has stepped down after 33 years of dedicated service as head coach - the team and the fans extend a great big thanks to Coach Bruno for all his years of hard work and commitment. Coach Ray Weidlein has taken on the responsibilities of head coach after 17 years of coaching experience with 10 of those years as Fred Bruno's assistant. Good Luck to Coach Weidlein and the boys. In addition, the Blue Dragons will be hosting their first night game ever in the history of Division Avenue Varsity football on October 10. Island Trees High School Athletics
The new season for the Girls Varsity Soccer team has begun. Along with coaches Phil Goldberg and Andy Schneider, Captains Kate Beale, Alyssa Fleming, Liz Liguori, Kate Schamberger and Kerri Spiess, everyone worked hard to get ready for the upcoming schedule. The first game was against Cold Spring Harbor (B Finalists and State Champions for many years). Although the Island Trees girls dominated throughout the contest, they ended up on the short end, losing 3-1. However, the girls played very well and created many scoring opportunities. The defense of Angela Barea, Sarah Burleson, Schamberger, Gina Brewer and Lisa Provenzano did a good job. Brewer scored the lone goal.
