Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League Update
The Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League held a scramble tournament on Sept. 4. A scramble tournament is when all players tee off and whoever has the best shot leaves the ball there, then the other three players pick up their ball and everybody hits their second shot from that spot. They then do the same thing on the third shot, etc. until somebody puts the ball in the hole. There were only 20 golfers on hand for the tournament and because of the bad weather for some time prior the course was wet and slow and the scores were high. Usually a round of 29 or 30 wins the tournament but on that day two teams shot for 33 for a tie for first and second place. Both teams parred the first and second holes but the winning team got a birdie (one of only two birdies that day) on the third hole and took first place money. The winning team was Bob Aull, Don Gaynor, Jerry Leonard and Jim Anderson. Second place went to Lou Rezoagli, Bob Lasky, Dom Viccaro and Steve Thompson. The longest drive was won by Harry Norton and the closest to the pin was won by Jim Anderson.
