Community Pulls Together During Largest Blackout in US History
The Long Island Power Authority's 1.1 million electric customers became part of the largest blackout in history when 50 million people lost electric service in the Northeast, portions of Canada and the mid-west on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 4:14 p.m.

800-Amp Transformer in Levittown to Be Relocated
After careful deliberation and public clamoring, Levittown Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Herman Sirois, has authorized the change order in the electrical contract with Gordon L. Seaman, Inc. at Lee Road School. In a consensus vote, the board of education decided that the contractor should relocate the 800-amp transformer, with an increase in contract not to exceed $15,021.98.

North and South Levittown Lanes Host 'Good Old Days of Bowling,' Levittown Services Exhibit
Frank Mormando, proprietor of North and South Levittown Lanes, is celebrating 50 years of business in the Levittown community with two weekends of "The Good Old Days of Bowling" Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23 and 24, and Friday through Monday, Aug. 29 to Sept. 1. Prices will be rolled back on bowling, $1.50 a game, soft drinks, hot dogs and shoe rental all just 99 cents each during celebration days.

USA Taekwondo of Levittown Scores Medals at USA Jr. Olympics
With much hard work and dedication, two students of Levittown's USA Taekwondo, located at 3701 Hempstead Turnpike, have much to be proud of. During the 2003 United States Jr. Olympic Championship, held in Orlando, FL this past July, 12-year-old Nawaf Gasem of Levittown and 13-year-old Gina Marie Praetorius each received silver and bronze medals respectively. Nawaf and Gina, as well as Nicholas Murray, Doris Josie Cano and Danielle Pagano, all qualified for the US Jr. Olympics by winning gold medals in the New York State Championship held back in April. All of these competitors, taught and trained by Master Jeff Ecklund, demonstrated incredible strength and courage, as well as their excellent sparring skills during the tournament.
