Levittown Well Represented on 2003 Empire Lacrosse Team
Five boys from Levittown were selected to this year's Empire Scholastic Men's Lacrosse Team. Traditionally, the Empire Lacrosse Team is the most selective of all the sports offered at the empire games. Over 900 boys from Nassau and Suffolk Counties tryout for the team. Eventually, 30 boys are picked for the squad. Out of that 30, 20 boys will be asked to travel to Buffalo for the games. As can be seen by the number of boys trying out, coupled with the fact that Long Island is still one of the heaviest recruited areas for college lacrosse programs, making this team is an enormous accomplishment. Making the team from Levittown's Division Avenue HS were junior Jim Davis on attack, junior John Terrillion on defense and sophomore Tom Davis at midfield. MacArthur HS added junior Nick Tintle at midfield and sophomore Scott Rodgers in goal. Congratulations to the boys and good luck at the games.

Island Trees Baseball All-Star Team Wins 2003 NYS Championship
On Saturday, Aug. 2, the Island Trees Baseball 11-year-old All-Star team beat North/Bellmore-North Merrick in the finals of the 2003 Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Metro-NY New York State Tournament. Island Trees' quest for the championship began back in July when they won their District tournament on July 19 and were crowned District Champs. They were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to clinch the District Championship on their home field. This was able to be accomplished due to Island Trees Baseball League President Nick Sguigna, after many hours spent at many meetings trying to convince the Babe Ruth Commission that Island Trees should host the 11-year-old District Tournament, it was finally awarded to them. This enabled the 11-year-old All-Star team to play on and clinch the District Championship on their home field on July 19.
