After winning the Paul Riley Indoor League in the winter and becoming the first Island Trees team to ever win the State Cup, the boys kept their hot streak alive. After dropping their first game of the Oneonta Legends of Summer Hall of Fame Tournament to an extremely talented Syracuse club, the boys would not allow another goal, defeating that very same team in the finals.

Coming into the tournament, the boys were looking at a difficult group that featured teams from Massachusetts, upstate New York and Pennsylvania. The reality of the situation hit hard in the opening game, where the boys would battle hard, but come up short, losing 1-0 against the Syracuse Blitz. The defense, led by Tim Kissane, Rob Ragogna and Brian Beissel, along with goaltender Micah Gruber, would buckle down and not allow another goal during the next four games. In the second and most crucial game of the tournament, the boys stepped up against a physical team from Massachusetts. Tim Kissane scored on a corner kick, giving the Rowdies a 1-0 halftime lead. The game was not put away until Sanjay Divakaran put home his first goal of the weekend, giving the boys a 2-0 victory.

The final game of the preliminaries was a must-win game against Kingston. With Matt Lucia in goal, Pete Cona at sweeper and Sean Walsh at defense, the boys were able to hold off their offense with some stellar clutch plays. Meanwhile, Mike Branker scored two first-half goals as the boys won 2-0 and advanced to the semifinals against Ken-Ton Ajax (Buffalo), who had not let up a goal all tournament. At the end of regulation and overtime, they had still not let up a goal, as both teams played to a 0-0 tie. It was penalty kicks that decided this game, and after Gruber saved Ken-Ton's first shot, the boys seemed in control. Tim Kissane, TJ Fabis, Mike Topel and Matt Lucia all converted their shots, and when the final shot from the opposition hit the crossbar, the boys had advanced to the finals, and would now play the only team to defeat them.

Having only rested 40 minutes in between the grueling games, the boys were beyond exhaustion, while the Syracuse Blitz was looking as sharp as ever. After some great chances for Syracuse, the boys reached deep down inside and finally settled into their game. Although winning seemed nearly impossible, players, such as Bryan Marksteiner, Jessie Weiner and Brian Spiess stepped up and gave tremendous minutes and made it possible for the Rowdies to have a chance to win. After holding on to a 0-0 tie at the half, all the boys needed was a lucky bounce to go their way. Ten minutes into the second half, they got one. Sanjay Divakaran sent a ball up to the forwards, in which Christian Salvage dummied in order to distract the defense. The idea worked, as Matt Lucia was in on the goalkeeper. After being pulled down, the referee awarded him a penalty shot, and he calmly nailed it into the lower left corner. The team then somehow was able to hold off the powerhouse and when the final whistle blew, they had won the final 1-0. The boys made it very worthwhile for the parents and people who made this experience possible, and they proved no matter what obstacles they are faced with, anything can be achieved if they stick together and believe in themselves and each other.
