This year's Division baseball team completed a very strong season and captured the league title. The team went 17-7, playing a very strong schedule against many of the top teams in the county. When the county tournament reached the quarterfinals, six of the eight teams alive were all from the Dragons baseball schedule. The Dragons played 15 of their 24 games against all of these top teams. When the Dragons got to the semi-finals it was Division, MacArthur and Wantagh, along with Clarke as the final four teams. Division played seven of its games against MacArthur and Wantagh.
Every league game was like a play-off game throughout the year. This high level of competition prepared the Dragons for the play-offs, where the Dragons made it to the county semi-finals for the second straight year.
With such a successful season, the Dragons had a number of players recognized by the coaches from the league as post-season award winners.
Junior Kevin Gerard was selected to the Honorable Mention All-League Team and senior Ray Montoro was selected All-League. Brian Chenicek was selected to the All-Conference Team, while seniors Scott Porter and Jesse Darcy were picked as All-County players. Darcy was also selected as the League MVP.
Next season, the Dragons will sorely miss seniors Brian Frers, Mike Kraly, Rob Juliano, Ray Montoro, Scott Porter and Jesse Darcy. The Dragons do look forward to the return of many underclassmen who played pivotal roles in the success of this year's team, including sophomores Rob Flock, Mike Oliveri, Garrett Douglas, Joe Cardone, Mike Ferrara and John Franco, as well as juniors Tom Brussle, Chris Carbone, Brian Chenicek, Dan Cooley, Dan DeVivo, Zach Flinn, Kevin Gerard, James Hickey, Chris Lombardo and Joe Seide.
With the return of so many seasoned young players, the Dragons look forward to being a very competitive team again next year.
