Firefighters examine the damage as a car rests partially in the kitchen of a Levittown home.

A Levittown family received a rude awakening early Sunday morning, June 8, when a car crashed into the front of their home. The Wantagh Fire Department, Nassau County Police and Wantagh/Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WLVAC) responded to the 2:45 a.m. call.
All arrived at the home on Stirrup Lane to find a car had crashed into the kitchen of the Levitt style ranch home. Fortunately there were no serious injuries but one male occupant of the car was taken to the hospital by a WLVAC ambulance.
Firefighters meanwhile removed all occupants from the home and examined the extent of structural damage. They checked for fire with a Thermal Imaging camera as the circuit breakers in the home had tripped and examined the car for leaking gasoline. They later shored up the front wall when the car was towed out of the kitchen.
The home's owner said he had just gone upstairs and left his wife resting on the couch. The children, one 6-year-old and 1-year-old twins, were asleep when the house shook. He raced down to find the car partially in the kitchen.
Members of Nassau Police Emergency Service Unit 2422 pulled the car from the home as Wantagh firefighters stood by. Information on the occupants of the car was unavailable as police conducted their investigation as to the cause. All units secured from the scene at approximately 4 a.m.
